There are various reasons for wanting to learn Japanese. You may want to pursue your undergraduate or graduate studies at a Japanese university or vocational school. Perhaps you would like to improve your conversation skills, or hope to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Whatever your objectives, you can choose language and elective courses to meet your goals and objectives at ISI.
Using the “direct method”, where our teachers speak only Japanese… The goal is to create a learning environment where the communication input and output becomes habit, without the aid of an intermediate language.
This course is available for those who have obtained a student visa with the intention of studying from 1 year and 3 months to a maximum of 2 years (Nagano Campus is from 1year and 6 months to 2 years). If you are at the intermediate level or higher, you may also take 2 elective courses each week. Depending on your individual needs, these courses can help you prepare to enter a school or, to get a job, help you pass the JLPT, or just to improve your language skills. Our campus at Takadanobaba has a special advanced level class just for students wishing to pass the entrance exam at schools which are particularly difficult to get into.
This course is for students coming to Japan with a residency status other than a student visa, and wish to study Japanese from a minimum of 2 weeks. Those who wish to be enrolled for one year or more on a working holiday visa or a Japanese spouse visa may also take this short-term course. The short-term general course offers the same curriculum as the long-term course, and is designed for those who are serious about learning Japanese.
The Short-Term Practical Japanese Course covers a lot of familiar topics, focusing on conversation, grammar, and written expression. In the class we include an emphasis on learning, and then experiencing the culture, and then finally, express what we have learned about the culture in Japanese.
The course, aimed at those who wish to find employment or change job in Japan, focuses mostly on improving the students’ conversation skills. At the Beginner level, students will learn how to handle simple conversations in Japanese. At the Intermediate level, they will learn the working etiquette here in Japan, as well as useful information about job hunting in the country.
All classes are taught entirely in Japanese, which grants fast and tangible progress.
