Takadanobaba Campus / Advanced III-8
Department of Multimedia Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University
Accepted by Graduate School of Information Science, Nagoya University

Miss Tang, a native of China and a student at Takadanobaba, has successfully passed the graduate school of Osaka University and Nagoya University, both of which are difficult national universities in Japan. She plans to study face-recognition systems in graduate school, with the dream of further research for practical use in the future, including application to robots.
We asked Miss Tang about her advice on how to enter higher education in Japan.

Why did you decide to study in Japan and Why did you choose ISI?
The reason why I chose to study in Japan was because I thought that Japan's high-tech technology related to artificial intelligence (robots, self-driving cars, etc.) was better than my home country's. The deciding factor for me to enroll in ISI was that there were many students from other countries.
What do you think was the best thing of enrolling in ISI and do you have any memorable lessons or memories of your teachers?
The following are the good things about enrolling in the school: 1) The teachers are very kind. 2) The school building and facilities are new and very clean. Our teachers checked my Japanese in my research proposal and I had to rewrite it many times. By having a well-written research plan, I was able to explain about my research in Japanese very smoothly when I met my professor.
Looking back on your exams, what were the hardest and best parts?
It is very difficult to choose a school by yourself and gather information about preparing for professional exams. That's why I approached people around me and asked for advice and suggestions. What I also did my best to do was to study the Japanese way of speaking very carefully. I often ask questions in class and try to speak actively.
What are your goals and dreams for the future?
In graduate school, I would like to research a system that can recognize faces. If this technology can be applied to robots, they will be able to recognize human emotions. If this happens, I believe that robots will be able to replace human jobs. I would like to continue my research toward the realization of such a society.
What would you tell to those who want to study in ISI?
Define your goals, and you'll succeed! Good luck, everyone!
