Introducing Japan's rainy season.

In most regions of Japan (including Tokyo), the rainy season lasts from early June to mid-July. However, the timing of the rainy season differs between the north and south of Japan. Also, keep in mind that the further west you go, the higher the probability of rain.

In Hokkaido and the Ogasawara Islands, there is very little rain during these weeks. However, the weather during this time is not perfect, and it can be cold or cloudy. In the southern islands of Japan, such as Okinawa, the rainy season starts a bit earlier, in May.
This rainy weather occurs when cold winds from the north collide with warm southern winds, resulting in continuous rain for several weeks. The amount of rainfall can vary greatly from year to year. Some years have abnormally high rainfall, while others have very little.

For many travelers, the rainy season is not an ideal time to visit Japan. The rain and storms characteristic of this season deter many people. Therefore, the periods before and after the rainy season become popular times.

So, what should one do during the rainy season in Japan?

Popular indoor activities in Japan include aquariums, bowling, karaoke, indoor amusement parks, cultural experiences, and cooking classes. Additionally, animal cafes have become a major trend in recent years.
If it rains, you can spend the whole day at art museums or galleries. From historical exhibits to unique digital art, Japan has a variety of world-class museums and special exhibitions that are held irregularly.
Shopping is one of the best activities on a rainy day. Japan has many large shopping malls, some of which house hundreds of stores, allowing you to enjoy shopping for hours without going outside.

During breaks in the rainy season, hydrangeas bloom beautifully. In Tokyo, several hydrangea festivals are held, including the "Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival."
