Application Process – Student Visa

  • Student Visa is a visa accepted by Japanese language schools, Japanese universities and vocational schools. The status of residence will be “Student”.
  • The period of stay of a Student Visa is issued for 6 months up to a maximum of 2 years from the date of entry and depending on the studying period.
  • You can renew your Student Visa and extend the period of stay depending on your enrollment period.
  • Our period of enrollment with a Student Visa is up to 2 years.
  • Part time jobs within 28 hours per week are possible if you have permission to do activities outside the one stated in your visa status. However, there are restrictions on the types of work.
  • If you want to apply for a Student Visa you will need to submit all the necessary documentation to the Immigration Bureau in Japan through our school.
  • It takes time to verify the documentation and about 6 months to obtain the Student Visa.

STEP 1 Enrollment Inquiry and Selection. Please, contact us first.

STEP 2 Applicants shall send the application form and other necessary documents to ISI Japanese Language School Education Center. You will be informed regarding payment and pay the visa application fee afterwards by bank remittance or Flywire. » Click here for more information how to pay the application fee.
STEP 3 After reviewing the documentation, if the applicant is elegible, ISI will apply on their behalf for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.
STEP 4 After aproximately 2 months and a half, ISI will receive the result of the COE from the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.
STEP 5 After COE is issued, ISI will send an invoice. Payment must be done by bank remittance or Flywire by the due date.
STEP 6 Once the payment is confirmed, the original COE, letter of acceptance and a guide for living in Japan will be sent to the applicants.
STEP 7 Please take the online placement exam before the deadline. ※Those who doesn’t take the placement test by the due date, will be considered as absolute beginners and thus placed in the lowest level class (Beginner I).
STEP 8 When you receive the COE, please apply for a Student Visa at the local Japanese Embassy/Consulate.
STEP 9 Book your flight and send the information (e-ticket) to ISI at least two weeks prior to the arrival date. If your accommodation is arranged by us, please arrive on the designated dorm entry days.
STEP 10 Come to school on the first day of the school term.
STEP 11 Beginning of classes. *Depending on the result of the test classes will be in the morning or in the afternoon.
